ABOUT ME
Me playing a little drums

Pulling bits and pieces from a variety of musical sources and genres helps Dave create a versatile sound that he can call his own. Classically trained with a wide array of professional experience in music from Jazz to Rock, and everything in between, he is able to bring a fresh, diverse feel to each new musical situation.

While maintaining an active performance schedule Dave has shared the stage with many high profile artists in the music scene today. His latest project, Deep Soul Deities, have just released their debut EP, “Strange Brew” which is already generating some serious buzz in the local scene. From 2005-2007 he was a member of the award winning UNI Jazz Band One with whom he recorded two albums. In 2007 his quintet, Group X, recorded their first album, “Kick the Can” which features two of Dave’s own compositions.

In addition to many years of private study, Dave received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of Northern Iowa. During his time at UNI, he studied under Tom Giampietro, Randy Hogancamp, Chris Merz, and Bob Washut.

Along with performing, he is an educator, teaching privately and appearing as a guest speaker and clinician throughout the Midwest.

Dave proudly endorses Evans drumheads, HQ Percussion pads, and Puresound snare wires.

TESTIMONIALS
Chris Merz: Director of Jazz Studies, UNI
"Dave Tiede treats the drums as a melodic instrument. He is keenly aware of the broad tonal palette at his disposal, and uses it to color his musical surroundings. His groove is deep, his comping inspirational. As much as I enjoy listening to him, I enjoy playing with him that much more...

Oh, and his snare sound ROCKS!"

Bob Washut: Professor of Music, UNI
"Dave Tiede is a helluva drummer. He is quite versatile and always makes the music feel good. And he's a quick study, a very accomplished, young musician. In my book, he's first call in this neck of the woods."

Peter Erskine: Drum Great
“Your drumming sounds really good on the CD, Dave ... Bravo. terrific drum sound, too ... good band!”

• Regarding the new Group X CD, "Kick the Can"

Tom Giampietro: Adjunct Professor at MTSU, Vanderbilt University and UNI.
"Over the past four years, it has been my pleasure to watch Dave Tiede grow from a young and eager student of the drums into a mature and resourceful musician with a sound and concept all his own. I look forward to seeing what the next four and forty years bring from this very musical of drummers."
